As Glendora fall sports come to a close, Glendora’s girl’s soccer program and other winter sports make their annual resurgence into the spotlight, and the soccer program is ready to have a strong season. Several of the varsity soccer players hold a specific torch for this year’s season because of the deep connections the players share.
“We’ve been together for so long because we’ve been a young team,” Olivia Martin recounts, “Our senior class and junior class have been together for the last three years and we’re super close.”
Through years of shared experiences, practices, and games, the players have learned more about each other’s ferocity and strive to win through their team goals: taking control of the fields and staying united off of it. After making it to the first round of CIFs in the 2023-2024 season, the girls are ready to push farther this season and their main goal is clear.
Tatiana Espitia vocalizes her ambition to “win CIF, and for everybody to have fun,” while Sophia McNamee reiterates, “Our main goal is to make it to CIFs past the first round and to win the league.”
Glendora High School students are notorious for their elevated school spirit and there are many exciting and upcoming games for Tartans to mark their calendars for. Bonita remains a fierce rival and the games are always exciting, with an anticipated home game on January 14th, and Ayala’s strong soccer program also serves as a match for the girls.
Juliet Haras looks back on their last year’s win over Ayala and calls it “my favorite memory … they’re always one of our hardest games and it was overall a good game.” Glendora plays Ayala at home on December 19th and for all the games, including those mentioned, the girls ask for everybody to come and support them.
“We need all the support we can get,” urges Stella Silva, “if all your schoolmates, classmates, and friends are out there watching you, you want to play your best.” The school support also isn’t just to boost the player’s morale, but Tartans become a part of something bigger when they attend the games: a culture of support and strength Glendora takes pride in.
Tatiana Espitia encourages, “We’re so much fun because there is so much energy and it gets so exciting and competitive.” This year, Glendora home games are located at Louie Pompei Memorial Sports Park and this year’s schedule is linked below.
Tartans, grab some friends, put on some red and black, and come out to support Glendora High School’s girl’s soccer program. From all of the students, good luck this season and let’s go Tartans!
